actual finished
"trim size"
of your title depends
on a number factors.

industry standards,
but no hard and

of all first run
paperback novels
are in "Trade
Paperback"
sizes which typically
range from 5"x8"
to 6"x9".
Mass market paperbacks,
commonly referred
to as "pocketbooks"
are usually sized
around 4"x7".
Some things to consider
when deciding on
size are:
The market
Look at the competition. For example, if you need to compete on a store shelf next to other large format cook books then you need to take that into account.
Function
Is the book expected
to survive a lot
of abuse, like a
text book or manual?
Does it need to

reference or instructional
title? Is it a legacy
item meant to last

years? Questions
like this will help
us determine the
physical makeup
of the book, it's
paper stock, binding
method, etc...
Cost
If your title is
meant for resale
the printed unit
cost is always a
factor. Things which
influence ,print
costs are page count,
paper choice, type
of bind, size and
color.
